Coming up with the best way for you to practice is more like being a nutritionist than like being a teacher. There’s no single diet you can prescribe to everyone, because we’re all different. Likewise, there’s no single best way to practice, to learn the repertoire you love, to master the physical and mental challenges of playing guitar. Perhaps the most important thing about being able to stick with a “diet” is that you actually love the food and feel satisfied by it, and it makes you feel good. Likewise, the most important thing about practicing is that you enjoy doing it—you have to feel fully engaged, challenged and yet energized while doing it, that you are able to gauge your progress and feel good about it. There’s one other thing that is also most important, and that’s developing your ability to trust and have confidence in your own capacity to learn.
