Videos 3 and 4: The knuckles and the wrists

The biggest takeaway from this module is that you need to find and develop ways of using and moving your hands that give you the most power, suppleness and ease. You need to do this by observing what each hand is doing, and asking “how does it feel?,” and experimenting/adjusting until you find the most happy medium. For both hands this means—as demonstrated in Video 3—playing from the knuckle when possible, and feeling into the balance between using this big joint and the other smaller finger joints. It also means—as demonstrated in Video 4—finding ways to keep the wrist from getting too habitually bent, and feeling into the most appropriate bend of the wrist in each situation.
